2009 EWB Development Gala
March 9th, 2009The 5th Annual Development Gala is being held by the Saskatoon Professional Chapter of Engineers Without Borders at the Radisson Hotel on the evening of Saturday April 4th, 2009, to raise funds in support of our Saskatchewan-based overseas volunteers and our in-Canada initiatives.
The development gala is our chapter’s major fundraising endeavour for the year and we would greatly appreciate your support. EWB Pro Saskatoon hopes to achieve its goal of providing ongoing financial support for a Saskatchewan-based long term overseas volunteer.
The evening’s festivities will include entertainment prior to dinner, a fantastic fine dining menu (either meat or vegetarian) and our special guest, Chad Hamre, as the keynote speaker. Individual tickets are being sold for $85 (with a $50 charity receipt), while tables of eight are offered for $525 (with a $260 charity receipt).
Cocktails begin at 6pm, with dinner at 7pm. Presentation and speeches will follow dinner, as well as a silent auction. This year’s theme is Ghana, so our auction items will centre on that theme.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.picatic.com/ticket/EWBGala or by calling Lisa White at (306) 280-3601

About our guest speaker:
Since graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering in 2005, Chad Hamre has generated impact in multiple industries across the globe. After graduation, he lead 5,000 Engineers Without Borders (EWB) volunteers across Canada to raise over $400,000, engage 100,000 members of the public, and run workshops with 25,000 high school students as the first ever Director of Chapter Development. In 2006, still with EWB, he moved to a rural village in Zambia where he improved the organizational management of an innovative $17 million agricultural value chains project connecting small-scale cattle farmers with improved market opportunities (blog). Unsatisfied with his worldly contribution thus far, Chad then completed a M.Sc. in Development Management from the London School of Economics in England to better understand the larger systems that keep some countries poor while others prosper. On top of his current day job as a Senior Associate with ICF International in their Climate Change and Energy Practice, Chad is working on two projects of his own. The first is a small start-up company, The Ethical Ocean, which aims to link ethical minded consumers with producers of fair trade goods online. The second is an innovative venture capital company scouting private investment opportunities in Africa. Chad has been awarded the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers Student Gold Medal, the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal, and the 2008 UofS Outstanding Young Alumni award. He currently lives in Toronto, but proudly flies a Saskatchewan flag in his downtown office!
